ZALIN, Beth Nahrin\u202f\u2014 The Syriac Union Party (SUP) in Syria convened an expanded political symposium in Zalin (Qamishli), Democratic Autonomous Administration of Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES), in which it focused on the latest developments in the Syrian landscape, particularly the escalating tensions in al-Suwayda Governorate. Discussions also addressed the political negotiation track with Daramsuq (Damascus) and the rights of national and religious minorities in Syria.<\/p>\n

The event, hosted at the Armenian Benevolent Association Hall, was attended by political figures and civil society representatives. SUP Co-Chair Sanharib Barsom, Co-Chair of the DAARNES Executive Council Vivian Bahho-Oussi, SUP Council member and Rubel Bahho chaired the symposium, informed about the state of affairs, presented the SUP point of view, and answered questions from the audience.<\/p>\n

Barsom presented a comprehensive political analysis, stressing the need for a\u202fjust political solution\u202fto end the current stalemate. He framed Suwayda\u2019s protests within a broader national context, calling for addressing Syria\u2019s\u202fdeep-rooted political and economic grievances. He also touched on Syrian government-DAARNES negotiations, indicating that talks are expected to resume soon, with emphasis on\u202finclusive representation\u202ffor all ethnic and religious components.<\/p>\n

Speakers and audience advocated for a\u202fdecentralized system\u202fensuring balance, stability and\u202fself-determination rights\u202ffor indigenous peoples within a unified Syria.<\/p>\n

The symposium featured an open dialogue with attendees, fostering dynamic debates on Syria\u2019s challenges and opportunities.<\/p>\n

The event is part of the Syriac Union Party\u2019s ongoing efforts to promote\u202fpolitical dialogue\u202fand public awareness, in addition to advancing\u202fpluralism, justice and minority rights\u202fin shaping Syria\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

As Syria undergoes rapid transformations, parties like the SUP seek an active role in crafting a\u202fpluralistic and equitable\u202fpath forward.<\/p>\n
