On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Turkish occupation forces targeted a convoy of civilians from the residents of North and East Syria, who were heading to the Tishreen Dam to express solidarity with the Syrian Democratic Forces and to protect the dam from Turkish threats. This attack resulted in the martyrdom of five civilians and the injury of fifteen others.
We, in the Syriac Union Party, strongly condemn this deliberate and systematic assault aimed at terrorizing civilians. This constitutes a war crime that adds to the numerous crimes committed by Turkey against civilians in North and East Syria, as well as against critical strategic infrastructure that directly affects essential services provided to the people in areas under the Autonomous Administration.
We call on the International Coalition to intervene immediately to stop these attacks carried out by Turkey and its mercenaries on the regions of the Autonomous Administration. We also urge the United Nations to intervene and establish a comprehensive ceasefire across all Syrian territories to create an environment conducive to enabling Syrians to work towards building their state through dialogue and joint participation in all critical and essential issues.
