The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) has issued a statement to the public regarding the escalating tensions and deteriorating security situation in the Syrian coastal region. The council reaffirmed that the protection of Syrian lives, regardless of their affiliations, is an absolute priority, emphasizing that no justification can be accepted for escalating violence against civilians or local institutions.
The statement urged the Daramsuq (Damascus) authorities to prioritize reason and urgently assume their national responsibilities in response to these developments. It stressed that targeting civilians and members of local law enforcement constitutes a flagrant violation of civil peace and is a condemned act that must be halted immediately.
The council unequivocally rejected military confrontations and called for addressing the root causes of tensions through serious and responsible dialogue, away from militarization and sectarian incitement. It underscored the importance of prioritizing national interests to avoid repeating the painful experiences witnessed in Syria and neighboring countries.
Furthermore, the statement emphasized that civil peace is the cornerstone of any stable and secure future, warning that any form of violence or sectarian provocation will only deepen divisions and prolong the suffering of Syrians.
The SDC called on all Syrians to reject discord and hate speech, urging them to unite in protecting the social fabric and fostering dialogue and understanding. It stressed that Syria can only recover through the unity of its people and respect for the diversity that forms its national identity.
In this context, the council warned against the severe escalation that risks dragging Syria back into a cycle of violence, serving only the enemies of peace and endangering the country’s security and unity. In light of its national responsibility, the council called on all active political parties to engage in a genuine national dialogue to reach a comprehensive political solution.
The statement also highlighted the urgent need to establish a transitional justice mechanism to hold perpetrators of crimes accountable while laying out a clear path for national reconciliation. It stressed that achieving justice must go hand in hand with the broader peace process.
At the same time, the council warned against attempts by regional powers to exploit Syria’s internal conflict for their own interests, condemning the unjustified and unacceptable international silence regarding the ongoing crisis.
In conclusion, the SDC urged the United Nations and the Security Council to take firmer and more serious positions by issuing a binding resolution to enforce a ceasefire across Syria and support a comprehensive and effective political process that ensures stability and an end to the cycle of violence.
Finally, the Syrian Democratic Council reaffirmed its commitment to working towards a just political solution that brings peace and stability while securing a prosperous and safe future for all Syrians—away from the logic of wars and conflicts that have brought only destruction and suffering.
