A government delegation headed by Mr. Hussein Abbas, Head of the Political Authority in Hasakah, visited the headquarters of the Syriac Union Party (Gabo d’Ḥuyodo Suryoyo, SUP) in Qamishli.
The delegation was received by Mr. Sanharib Barsom, Co-Chair of the SUP in Syria, along with a number of members of the party’s executive body.
During the meeting, Mr. Hussein Abbas spoke about the integration mechanisms currently underway in Hasakah, stressing the importance of pluralism in Syria and the participation of all components in building the country. He noted that the rights of all components would be safeguarded, describing this as a fundamental principle of the government.
Abbas added that Syria today needs all Syrians during this difficult phase the country is experiencing in terms of recovery and reconstruction.
He also expressed his appreciation for the role of political parties, noting that a law regulating the licensing of political parties would be issued soon.
For his part, party official Mr. Sanharib Barsom welcomed the delegation representing the Syrian government and reaffirmed the party’s support for the integration processes taking place in Hasakah.
He also highlighted the importance of having authorities and powers within the framework of decentralization, as well as the need to recognize the rights of the Syriac-Assyrian component as an indigenous component of Syria, guarantee its cultural and political rights, and recognize the Syriac language.
The meeting also included discussions on the formation of the People’s Council and the electoral mechanism within Hasakah Governorate, after which the council’s formation will be completed so it can hold its first session.
