In an atmosphere of sorrow and deep appreciation for her sacrifices, a Tashmish prayer service and memorial were held this Sunday morning for the repose of the soul of martyr Izla (Nariman Ra’yu), with a large official and public attendance in the city of Zalin (Qamishli).
The funeral prayer was conducted at the Church of the Virgin Mary for the Syriac Orthodox, followed by a procession to the Gulbenkian Hall in the city, accompanied by a march and musical pieces performed by the Syriac scouting band.
The ceremony witnessed broad participation from members of the Beth Nahrain National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB), from various cities in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region North and East Syria (DAARNES), alongside His Eminence Mor Maurice Amsih, Metropolitan of Gozarto (Al-Jazira) and the Euphrates for the Syriac Orthodox Church, and a number of clergy members.
Representatives from Syriac institutions, military, and security forces, as well as members of the Syriac-Assyrian community and officials from the Autonomous Administration, were also in attendance.
During the memorial service, several speeches were delivered, highlighting the struggle and contributions of martyr Izla. Esho Kourieh, a member of the Presidential Committee of the Beth Nahrain National Council, emphasized the significance of her sacrifices and commitment to the cause.
Georgette Barsoumo, head of the Syriac Women’s Union, spoke about her role in women’s activism, while Siham Qaryo, co-chair of the Democratic Peoples’ Council, praised her legacy of struggle.
Meanwhile, Sihanouk Dibo, head of the Relations Office of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), provided insights into her political and societal contributions.
The ceremony concluded with a strong sense of grief and solidarity, as attendees reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the path of struggle in honor of Izla and all martyrs.
