The Syriac Union Party in Syria issued a statement following the issuance of the Constitutional Declaration in Damascus, stating:
In a new step by the interim government in Damascus and as a continuation of the exclusion and marginalization of Syrian components, the President of the Transitional Phase in Syria issued the Constitutional Declaration on March 13. This declaration aligns with the orientations and ideology of the ruling authority and continues the previous concepts adopted by the defunct Assad regime, disregarding the aspirations and goals of the Syrian people and their revolution for change towards democracy, justice, and respect for individual and collective human rights. It undermines national pluralism and moves towards imposing a single identity on Syria while maintaining strict central control over the country
The Syriac Union Party, in its statement, considered this Constitutional Declaration as an announcement of an unstable phase that does not pave the way for the necessary transitional period in Syria. This phase should be one of confidence-building, consolidating civil peace, and implementing transitional justice based on genuine partnership among all components while ensuring their political, social, and economic rights within the Syrian state. The identity of this state should be one of multiple ethnicities, cultures, and religions. The Syrian people consist of Arabs, Kurds, Syriac-Assyrians, Christians, Muslims, Yazidis, and others. The state should remain neutral towards all religions and ethnicities while preserving its unity, sovereignty, and independence according to a decentralized democratic system and an inclusive national identity.
