On the occasion of Easter Sunday, a delegation from the Beth Nahrin National Council institutions visited several churches in Qamishli, accompanied by Nadine Maenza, the Secretary-General of the International Religious Freedom Secretariat.
The delegation included prominent figures such as Sanharib Barsoum, Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party; Nazira Koreya, Head of External Relations for the Beth Nahrin National Council; Georgette Barsoumo, Head of the Syriac Women’s Union; Malek Hanna, Head of the Syriac Cross Relief and Development Organization in Syria; and Estifan Masoud, Co-Chair of Qamishli Municipality.
The delegation began their tour by attending the Divine Liturgy at the Syriac Orthodox Church of the Virgin Mary. During the service, Mor Maurice Amseeh, Metropolitan of the Jazira and Euphrates Diocese for the Syriac Orthodox Church, extended a special Easter greeting to Ms. Maenza, welcoming her to Qamishli through a message read by Father Saliba Abdullah.
The delegation’s visits included various churches, such as the Syriac Orthodox Church, Syriac Catholic Church, Armenian Orthodox Church, Christian Evangelical Union, and the Chaldean Church. Throughout their tour, the delegation conveyed Easter greetings to clergy and church leaders, engaging in discussions about the general situation in Syria and the specific challenges facing the northeastern region. They also addressed the conditions of the Syriac community and Christians across Syria following the fall of the previous regime.
