DARAMSUQ — Officials from the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAARNES) met with representatives of the Syrian Transitional Government (STG) on Sunday in Daramsuq (Damascus), marking the first formal round of negotiations between the two sides.
The meeting, held “in a constructive and cooperative atmosphere”, focused on implementing the March 10 agreement signed between Transitional President Ahmad al-Sharaa and Mazloum Abdi Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). Both delegations agreed to form joint subcommittees to address administrative, security, and service-related matters, with the goal of gradually aligning institutions between DAARNES and Daramsuq (Damascus).
One of the priorities discussed was the education file, particularly solutions for administering national exams for students in DAARNES areas. Other key topics included facilitating the return of displaced persons to their homes, the situation in Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud in Holeb (Aleppo), and broader security coordination.
While the process remains in early stages, both sides signaled readiness for continued engagement aimed at preserving Syria’s unity and improving coordination on national issues.
Brigadier General Ziad al-Ayesh, head of the STG’s implementation committee, confirmed the commitment to continuing dialogue and activating subcommittees to ensure progress on agreed files.
The DAARNES delegation, which included co-chair of the Syriac Union Party, Sanharib Barsom, stated; “Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to constructive dialogue and continued cooperation in a way that supports Syria’s unity and sovereignty, and fulfills the Syrian people’s aspirations for security and stability.
It was also agreed to hold another session in the near future to continue discussions and follow up on the implementation of the agreed points.”
