In commemoration of the Sayfo massacres that took place against our people in 1915, the Syriac Union Party organized a memorial event in the town of Qabre Heworeh.
The event began with a prayer for the souls of the Sayfo martyrs held inside the town church. Following the prayer, participants proceeded on a walking march, led by two brass bands: the Syriac Cultural Association Scouts and the Virgin Mary Syriac Orthodox Church Scouts of Qabre Heworeh.
At the end of the march, a moment of silence was observed in honor and reverence for all the martyrs. This was followed by a speech from the Syriac Union Party, delivered by Ms. Faya Ardesh, the co-chair of the Qabre Heworeh branch of the party. In her speech, she emphasized the profound meaning and unique importance of this painful memory for the Syriac people.
A second speech, delivered on behalf of the residents of Qabre Heworeh by Mr. Faraj Marouki, reaffirmed the significance and necessity of commemorating this occasion.
The ceremony concluded with the laying of the foundation stone for the Sayfo Martyrs Memorial, musical performances by the scouts, and candle lighting by the attendees in honor of the Sayfo martyrs.
Additionally, a short film (a cine-vision) was presented, offering an overview of the Sayfo massacres, including personal testimonies, historical images, and their ongoing impact on our people to this day.
