In the presence of representatives from the institutions of the Beth Nahrain National Council, various organizations and parties, and clergymen from different denominations, the Syriac Union Party in Qamishli held a commemorative evening for the victims and martyrs of the Sayfo massacres, marking the 110th anniversary of the tragedy.
The event began with a moment of silence in honor and reverence for the souls of all the martyrs. This was followed by several speeches, including a speech by the co-chair of the Syriac Union Party in Syria, Shamiram Danho; a speech by Mor Maurice Amsih, Metropolitan of Al-Jazira and the Euphrates for the Syriac Orthodox Church; a speech delivered by Mr. Hikmat Hebib on behalf of the Autonomous Administration; and a speech by Mr. Hagop Barsoumian representing the Armenian community.
Afterward, young Maxim Ishaq performed a song inspired by the occasion, followed by a play about the Sayfo, presented by the Syriac Cultural Association’s theater troupe, directed by Mr. Shavzan Mahmoud and written by Mr. Fadi Shamoun.
The event concluded with a candlelight march toward the Sayfo Roundabout, where a prayer was led by Metropolitan Mor Maurice Amsih.
