On the occasion of the twelfth anniversary of the arrest of the Syriac Union Party leader “Saeed Malaki,” the party issued a statement to the public, which read:
The twelfth annual anniversary of the arrest of the Syriac Union Party leader and one of its most important founders, Mr. Saeed Hanna Malaki, by the security apparatuses affiliated with the Assad regime, falls on August 12, 2013, in the city of Qamishli. He was later transferred to the prisons of Damascus. Despite the fall of the regime, the opening of all prisons, and the search through the records of the concerned institutions, no trace of him or even the location of his body in case of martyrdom has been found. This case remains an important issue for all Syrians, as tens of thousands of Syrians are still considered forcibly disappeared and missing.
The statement pointed out that on this occasion, we remember leader Saeed Malaki, and thanks to his will and love for his people, he was able to achieve many accomplishments that have become the foundation for the renaissance of our Syriac Assyrian people during the last two decades. He had great faith in reaching a better future for our people and for the Syrian people in general, ending the era of tyranny, slavery, marginalization, and exclusion. He always affirmed that the path to freedom is the path of sacrifice and martyrdom.
During the statement, the Syriac Union Party renewed its pledge to our people to continue on the path of martyrdom and to be faithful to the constellation of our martyrs who resisted and sacrificed their lives.
The statement also urged the Syrian authorities along with relevant international humanitarian organizations to seriously care for and work on finding the fate of those forcibly disappeared by the criminal Assad regime, which is considered one of the important issues that must be resolved during this transitional period Syria is going through.
