On October 1, 2005, the establishment of the Syriac Union Party was announced, sending a ray of hope into the body of our Syriac-Assyrian people, who for decades had suffered persecution, marginalization, and displacement from their historical land, Beth Nahrain. This body was torn apart by the international agreements that followed the First World War, leaving our people in Syria to face double the suffering under authoritarian regimes that treated them as a minority, pursuing policies aimed at destroying their existence, identity, and culture, whether through forced assimilation or displacement.
In light of this bitter reality, the launch of our Party came as a rejection of this humiliating situation and as a defense of our national and patriotic rights. We were determined to restore life to our indigenous people who had long endured, armed with faith and will. We chose the path of sacrifice and martyrdom, for it is the path that leads to dignity, freedom, and victory.
On this occasion, as we commemorate the first anniversary after the fall of the defunct Assad regime, which had long posed a major obstacle to the aspirations of our people and the hopes of the Syrian people in general, we affirm to all the sons and daughters of our people in Syria that we are moving forward with steadfast work to achieve our goals. We seek to unite the ranks of our Christian people, with all their denominations, sects, and political forces, so that they may have a prominent role in building the future of Syria and determining its destiny.
Today, Syria is going through a transitional stage, inheriting destruction and ruin as a result of war. Its social fabric has been torn, and tension and distrust have spread among its components. This calls upon the Syrian government to direct its efforts toward internal issues and to resolve outstanding matters peacefully, in a way that preserves Syria’s unity, land and people, and guarantees the rights of all its national, religious, and cultural components.
On this occasion, we extend our highest congratulations to all our comrades in the Party. Thanks to your efforts and strong will, we have been able to revive the cause of our Syriac-Assyrian people, and you have become the source of hope for its renaissance. You are the driving force that pushes us all toward uniting our ranks to achieve our national and patriotic goals and to build a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized Syria.
