Following the recent events in Aleppo, the Syriac Union Party in Syria issued a statement expressing its concern over the unfortunate security developments that took place in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods of Aleppo, after clashes erupted between the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) and Syrian government forces against the backdrop of the ongoing siege imposed on the two neighborhoods.
In its statement, the party stressed the need for restraint and prioritizing dialogue, noting that the safety and security of civilians is a top priority that cannot be compromised, as it is both a moral and national duty.
In this context, the statement referred to the previously signed agreement known as the March 10 Agreement, between Mr. Ahmad al-Shar’a and Mr. Mazloum Abdi, which clearly stipulated mutual coordination and understanding to avoid escalation, ensure stability in the region, and included specific provisions related to the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods.
The party called in its statement for the immediate commitment to the terms of this agreement and the activation of communication channels to calm the situation and prevent the recurrence of such incidents, which serve only the interests of the enemies of the Syrian people in all their components and segments.
The party also urged all Syrian parties to act with a sense of national responsibility and to preserve what remains of the country’s social fabric, especially in areas that have always embraced pluralism and coexistence among the components of the Syrian people, such as the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods.
