The Syrian Democratic Council issued a statement regarding the elections for the Syrian People’s Assembly, stating:
“The Syrian Democratic Council has followed today’s elections for the People’s Assembly of Syria, which do not reflect the will of the Syrian people and do not represent all regions and components of the country. Instead, they were a political play that does not befit Syria’s rich history or the sacrifices of its sons and daughters who have struggled to build a new Syria based on genuine democracy, freedom, and real partnership.”
The statement clarified that these superficial elections have deepened divisions within Syrian society instead of being a step toward national unity and comprehensive reconciliation.
It added that Syrians aspire to genuine elections that reflect their will and represent all of them, as this is a national right that cannot be waived or abandoned, and a fundamental pillar in the process of building a unified democratic state based on justice, citizenship, and equality among all Syrians.
The statement further pointed out that no electoral process can be considered legitimate unless it takes place with the participation and representation of all Syrians, both inside and outside the country, and under international supervision that ensures integrity and transparency—paving the way to end division and achieve a just and lasting peace in Syria.
