The Syriac Union Party in Syria issued a statement regarding the military escalations in Aleppo, expressing its deep regret over the events taking place in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods of the city. The statement noted that these developments constitute a clear violation of the April Agreement, which aimed to halt escalation and seek peaceful solutions to the city’s crisis.
The statement pointed out that the targeting of civilians in these areas, through the use of heavy weapons against residential neighborhoods, represents a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and further exacerbates the suffering of innocent civilians, placing the lives of thousands of families at risk.
The party strongly condemned this military escalation, stating that it contributes to deepening civilian suffering and threatens the safety of the local community. The statement also called on all concerned parties to implement an immediate ceasefire and to refrain from military solutions that lead only to more casualties. It emphasized that the government’s adherence to a mindset of domination, its failure to respect agreements, and its use of military force serve regional agendas. The statement stressed that dialogue and a comprehensive national conference should be the sole means to resolve all outstanding issues.
The statement further called for the resumption of peaceful dialogue among the concerned parties and a return to the negotiating table, in a manner that guarantees citizens’ right to live in peace and security. It also urged respect for previous agreements, foremost among them the April Agreement, and avoidance of any practices that would lead to further bloodshed among civilians.
