Ephrem Ishaq, Head of Relations of the Syriac Union Party, stated that the party is closely following the ongoing developments in the region, particularly in the Jazira area, stressing the importance of preserving its historical character based on diversity and coexistence among its indigenous components, Arabs, Kurds, and Syriac Assyrians, alongside Muslims, Christians, and Yazidis.
Ishaq noted that history bears witness to the national role of the people of the Jazira and to the national figures who actively participated in Syrian political life since the founding of Syria. He emphasized that any agreement that helps neutralize the specter of war and strengthens civil peace is a legitimate demand and a national necessity at this sensitive stage.
He added that the January 18, 2026 agreement is appreciated for its particular importance amid a phase described as highly complex, at a time when tension dominates the general scene during these difficult days. He pointed out that today’s wound is a Syrian wound, and that every drop of blood spilled represents a loss for all Syrians without exception.
Ishaq stressed that rebuilding the Syrian homeland and resolving the national issue must pass through addressing the national questions of all indigenous components, Arabs, Kurds, Syriac Assyrians, Armenians, Circassians, and Turkmen, achieving genuine partnership in governing the country and fair representation within official state institutions, in addition to working toward drafting a national constitution that guarantees and protects the rights of all.
He affirmed that mutual trust among Syrians is the path to healing wounds, emphasizing that Kurds, Syriac Assyrians, and Arabs, along with all other components, are indigenous peoples of this homeland, which requires safeguarding this diversity as a source of strength and richness for Syrian society.
Ishaq also emphasized that peace is not merely the absence of war, but is founded on coexistence and understanding among the peoples of the Syrian Jazira. Human bonds must be stronger than any political disputes or differences, with the need to reject the growing and dangerous discourse of hatred and to promote a culture of dialogue and mutual respect. He affirmed that peaceful solutions based on understanding and justice are the only path to ensuring a safe and stable future and achieving sustainable peace that spares the country the horrors of conflict and bloodshed.
He concluded by reaffirming that the Syriac Union Party supports any agreement that guarantees the rights of all components and their fair representation, and that entrenches peace and coexistence, noting that agreements based on understanding and justice are the solution that achieves sustainable peace and spares everyone the repercussions of conflict.
