The Syriac Union Party held its annual meeting on Friday, March 13, 2026, with the participation of representatives from all its branches, offices, and leadership. During the meeting, participants evaluated the political, social, and economic situation in Syria, as well as the condition of the Syriac Assyrian, and Christian communities in general in light of the regional and international developments and the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
The meeting also discussed the party’s internal organizational matters, reviewed the previous phase, approved all reports, and set plans for the coming year. Participants emphasized that the next phase requires intensified efforts from everyone, given the important and sensitive circumstances Syria is currently experiencing. They stressed the need to pursue all peaceful means to ensure that our people can assume their role and secure the recognition of their legitimate national rights.
At the national level, and based on the fact that the Syriac Assyrian people are an integral part of Syrian society, the participants affirmed the necessity and importance of issuing a decree by the President of the Syrian Republic, Mr. Ahmed al-Sharaa, recognizing the political, national, and cultural rights of the Syriac Assyrian people as an important initial step that would pave the way for the inclusion of these rights in the Syrian constitution.
The participants also emphasized the importance of the January 29 Agreement and expressed their support for it, provided that its implementation meets the aspirations of all components of the region within the framework of expanded decentralization. They expressed appreciation for all efforts that have led to progress in the files of detainees, displaced persons, the reopening of roads, and other related issues.
In the same context, the participants stressed the importance of the Syrian government working to achieve genuine partnership among all segments and components of the Syrian people, ensuring their representation based on competence within government institutions. They also called for amending the constitutional declaration that governs the transitional phase and for the formation of a committee to draft a permanent constitution for Syria, in which they emphasized the necessity of their representation.
The party also highlighted the importance of improving citizens’ living conditions, achieving security and stability, and urged the international community and friendly countries to work toward supporting reconstruction efforts and rebuilding the destroyed infrastructure in Syria. They further called for resolving the issue of internally displaced persons and refugees and ensuring their dignified return to their cities and villages.
At the national level of the Syriac Assyrian people, the Syriac Union Party affirmed the importance of unifying the efforts of all national parties representing our people. In this regard, the party renewed its call to all parties to hold a conference representing our people in order to unify visions and demands, describing this as a historical responsibility at this pivotal stage in Syria.
The party members reaffirmed their commitment to continue the struggle so that our people may live with full rights, dignity, and security in Syria. The party also extended its hand to all democratic forces that believe in coexistence and a shared homeland whose identity can only be defined through an inclusive identity that embraces all national and religious components. Such an approach, they noted, requires today greater rapprochement and constructive dialogue that supports Syria’s unity and stability as a state for all Syrians, safeguards human rights, and builds the strongest relations with regional and international countries.
